What we do:

  1. Oversee the assessment of U.S. high school transcripts for English, Second Language (ESL) and math courses.
  2. Oversee the online English, ESL and math assessment processes (granting access to delivering results).
  3. Proctor the online Science Exam and delivery results.
  4. Support you!

De Anza CANNOT accept

any external tests (NO iTEP, O-Level, etc.)

for English or Math course placement.

Assessment Process

Everyone should complete the assessment process.

Why?

Assessment results will tell you which English or English as a Second Language (ESL) and math classes you are eligible to take. YAY!

  • Complete the assessment process as soon as possible.
  • Get placed into the English or English as a Second Language (ESL) and Math classes that are right for you!

Remember:

Completion of the assessment process is required before you can register for English or ESL and math classes.

Take-Aways

  • The math assessment NOT a test.
  • You can be placed as high as MATH 1A: Calculus I.
  • Once you complete the math assessment, you will be eligible for multiple math courses. Talk with your counselor to decide which math course you should take.

  • Improve your communication skills – the ESL department offers classes that focus exclusively on improving your listening and speaking abilities

  • ESL 5 is TRANSFERABLE

…to the University of California (IGETC Area A1-English Composition) >>>started in Fall Quarter 2021<<<

…to the California State University (Area A2-Written Communication) and meets the General Education requirement for AA and AS degrees (Area A1-English Composition).

  • ESL 6 is transferable to the University of California (IGETC Area C2-Humanities) and meets the General Education requirement for AA and AS degrees (Area C2-Humanities).

Assessment: Request Access to an Online Assessment

After your request is processed...

  1. You’ll receive an email with an overview of the online assessment rules.
  2. You’ll need to read the email completely and confirm that you understand the information in the email.
  3. You’ll complete your assessment online.
  4. You’ll receive an email when your results have been posted on your MyPortal account.
