    • A Citizen is a person who owes loyalty to a country and receives its protection.

  • All countries have some type of government.

  • The government acts on behalf of the people.

  • Representative Democracy
    • Citizens hold political power and rule through elected officials

  • Monarchy
    • A ruling family headed by a king, queen, emperor, or sultan.
    • Can be a traditional or constitutional monarchy.

    • A small group of people hold power.
    • Usually based on wealth, military strength, family, political influence, or privilege.
