CGE Student Council Parent Fact Sheet

Important Dates and Forms:

  • Students in grades 3-5 can apply to run for one position per school year as a grade-level representative ad 4-5 grade students may also apply to be an executive board member. For more detailed descriptions of positions, see the student info packet on the CGE Student Council Google Classroom (Your student can join from their school computer with Join Code: 4lhhcga)
  • Students running for class representative will participate in a classroom election first, on Friday, October 13th.
  • Students running for executive offices will participate in a school-wide election on Wednesday, October 25th.
  • Students will need to fill out an application--also found on the google classroom-- and may need some help filling out the recommendation section and the community service section. Applications are due NO Later than Wednesday, October 4th.
  • Candidates must have a signed parent permission form to participate in student council. Forms are due by the first student council meeting.
  • All Elected Student Council Representatives will need to be members of the google classroom and parents will be added as guardians to keep you updated with important information.
  • Candidates may record their essay at home on Flip or come in before school on september 26thh or stay after school September 26th and meet in Ms.Varner’s Room to have their essay recorded. Speeches will be aired to classroom before the election.

Executive Candidates Campaign: October 17th-24th

Student Representative Expectations:

  • Candidates MUST do ALL of their own campaign work, this includes writing their essay, making any posters, flyers, or election materials, etc.
  • Student council representatives are required to have 3-5 service hours per year in order to maintain their office. These hours will be recorded via google form.
  • Student council members cannot have had a serious behavioral infraction) in the previous year before they apply/ serve on the council.
  • Student council members will attend two after-school meetings per month (Transportation home must be provided by parent/guardians). Dates will be announced after the election. Council members are expected to attend meetings regularly (Both meetings unless extenuating transportation circumstances exist).
  • Council Members are expected to participate in all projects they choose to help plan for as well as full-council functions such as 5th grade promotion, and Gator Bash.
  • The student council president and vice president are expected to attend a meeting with school administration to present any project proposals. Transportation home must be provided by parents/ guardians.
  • Council representatives must be permitted in all CGE publicity.
