THE ANSHE EMETH HIGH COUNCIL ON MYTHICAL CREATURES & SUPERNATURAL ENTITIESCASE #004: LEVIATHAN
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT LEVIATHAN
A group of environmental scientists and electrical engineers called Myriad believe that if we trap Leviathan in a large tank or enclosure and repeatedly provoke her into moving quickly and breathing fire, we can create renewable, sustainable energy. Though Leviathan has evaded capture in the past, they believe we now possess the technology to succeed. If they succeed, a majestic, intelligent, and ancient creature would essentially become a captive slave of the human race, but could also potentially save billions of people from catastrophic climate change.Do we, as the High Council, authorize Myriad’s mission to attempt to trap the Leviathan and harness her power?
Can you draw out Leviathan by a fishhook? Can you press down her tongue by a rope? Can you put a ring through her nose, Or pierce her jaw with a barb? Will she plead with you at length? Will she speak soft words to you? Will she make an agreement with you to be taken as your lifelong slave? Will you play with her like a bird, And tie her down to prove your strength? Shall traders traffic in her? Will she be divided up among merchants?
Can you fill her skin with darts Or her head with fish-spears? Lay a hand on her, And you will never think of battle again.
See, any hope [of capturing] her must be disappointed; One is prostrated by the very sight of her. There is no one so fierce as to rouse her. Who can uncover her outer garment? Who can penetrate the folds of her jowls? Who can pry open the doors of her face? Her bared teeth strike terror. Her protective scales are her pride, Locked with a binding seal so they cannot be parted. Her sneezings flash lightning, Firebrands stream from her mouth; Fiery sparks escape. Out of her nostrils comes smoke As from a steaming, boiling cauldron. Her breath ignites coals; Flames blaze from her mouth. Her heart is cast hard as a stone, Hard as the nether millstone. Divine beings are in dread as she rears up; As she crashes down, they cringe. No sword that overtakes her can prevail, Nor spear, nor missile, nor lance.
She regards iron as straw, Bronze, as rotted wood. No arrow can put her to flight; Slingstones turn into stubble for her. Clubs are regarded as stubble; she scoffs at the quivering javelin. Her underpart is jagged shards; It spreads a threshing-sledge on the mud. She makes the depths seethe like a cauldron; she makes the sea [boil] like an ointment-pot. Her wake is a luminous path; she makes the deep seem white-haired. There is no one on land who can dominate her, Made as she is without fear. She is ruler over all proud beasts.
SHOULD WE AUTHORIZE MYRIAD’S MISSION
