Purpose

Between wearing cream sunscreen, spray sunscreen, or no sunscreen, which type of sunscreen will provide the best protection for skin in the sun?

Hypothesis

This scientist believes that if you test no sunscreen, cream sunscreen, and spray sunscreen, then the one that will do the best job of protecting is the cream sunscreen

Materials

  • 3 pieces of black construction paper
  • 1 bottle of sunscreen spray
  • 1 bottle of sunscreen cream
  • 1 paint brush
  • 1 cookie cutter
  • 1 pencil

Procedures

1. Put the cookie cutter on the left side of the paper.

2. Hold the cookie cutter down and trace around the cookie cutter with a pencil.

3. Repeat step one but put the cookie cutter on the right side of the paper.

4. Use the paintbrush and paint cream sunscreen inside the cookie cutter on the paper covering the paper completely.

5. Repeat step one again, but put the cookie cutter in the middle of the paper.

6. Spray sunscreen onto the paper inside the cookie cutter.

7. Place the paper outside in a direct sunny area for 2 hours.

8. Check to see which sunscreen prevents fade.

9. Repeat steps 1-8 two more times.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my hypothesis was accepted, the best type of sunscreen to wear for skin protection is cream sunscreen.

Real World Connection

The cream sunscreen did the best job of providing protection from the sun so if you go to the beach or are playing in your backyard on a sunny day, you should wear cream sunscreen.
