DOES YOUR TEAM HAVE A TEAM CULTURE?

  • Every team has a culture. Even if you do not know what yours is, one exists.
  • Culture is a measure of the observable behaviors your team and organization promotes and accepts.
  • Ultimately, culture is best defined simply as ‘the way we do things around here’ or ‘the way we behave around here’.

CREATING A POSTIVE TEAM CULTURE

  • A TEAM is made up of many individual people. YOU have to figure out what motivates each person.
  • Know your athletes and why they are there and what motivates them!
  • WHY they play and WHAT makes them keep coming back to play the game of wheelchair basketball
  • Create an environment so that the athletes understand this is a TEAM sport based on WE not ME
  • Coaches help create Culture by creating good learning environments where the athletes feel safe, welcome, valued, receive positive coaching feedback and have fun while working hard.
  • Team Culture creation is led by the COACH, but the IDENTITY and CULTURE of the TEAM is formulated by EVERYONE based on our teams goals, team strengths, athletes strengths and weaknesses and the athletes potential.
  • COMMUNICATION = LISTEN TO YOUR ATHLETES

  • Be ON TIME!!
  • Help fix each others chairs?
  • Fill up others water bottles
  • Give positive feedback rather than making fun of or laughing at your teammates mistakes
  • Be accountable, if you mess up, APOLOGIZE for your actions and move on
  • Offer each other rides
  • TEAM DINNERS OR LUNCHES
  • Have a TEAM CHEER! Who Are WE? Where are WE from? What did we do?
