7:00 - 7:10 Introduction and What is Advanced Placement @Northwood?

Advanced Placement (AP) courses at Northwood are the most rigorous, challenging, and, as a result, enriching courses we offer. They are college courses taught at the high school level with the expectation that college level skills must be taught in them.

This year Northwood has 429 students taking 764 Advanced Placement Classes!

Why would I put my self/student through such a thing?

When might a student start taking AP courses?

Some students may begin as early as 9th grade (around 10%/40)

Others begin in 10th grade (another 10%/110 tests being taken this year)

Many begin in 11th grade (295 tests this year)

Some take a single AP in 12th grade (368 senior tests)

7:45-7:55 Beginning AP - What support may be provided for 1st time AP students?

Once a student begins an Advanced Placement class, they are expected to complete it. (staffing)

AP instructors typically offer a lot of opportunities for students to get extra help.

Students who know they have challenges, due to needed preparation, or outside conflicts, may select an additional class period of support.
