Let us sing the following songs

Do you recall the phrases and sections of a musical composition?� Let us recall some a simple piece and identify the numbers of measures and lyrics of different phrases

What have you notice in measures 1-4 of the songs.

A composer sees to it that his composition is carefully written from the melody, to the lyrics and other elements of music.�The composer take consideration the musical of a song.�What is a musical form?�Musical form is created when the different elements of music in a composition are arranged and combined into sections.

Form refers to the design and structure in music. It organizes and puts together musical ideas. Its repeats, contrasts and varies, creating a sense of unity, balance, and variety to a musical composition

In music we have also a motif..�take a look on the example below�What have you notice on measure 1-4 and 9-12

The shortest unit of music is the motif. It may be in the form of a rhythm or melody. The example shown is melodic motif where the melody in measure 1-4 will be sang/heard in 9-12

The combination of motifs that form melodies called musical phrase. �Phrases may be contrasting, similar or separated with some changes in rhythm or melodic line.

These motif can be used in a musical forms of a song

Musical Forms�1. Strophic/ Unitary form�2. Binary form�3. Ternary form�4. Rondo

Joy to the World is an example of strophic form.�The simplest form where melody or rhythm correspond to and it heard repeatedly in the entire composition.�It also called A form or unitary form

Unitary/Strophic

Binary form has two different sections. �The first labelled A while section 2 is B

Ternary form has three section labelled ABA

Rondo Form or ABACA it has repeated section with two or more contrasting sections
