Lección 5.5 – El tiempo – The Weather

There are several different verbs to describe weather conditions. You will need to memorize which expression goes which each verb. To ask about the weather in general, and to describe most types of weather, use the verb: hacer. Refer to your vocabulary list for this chapter for other weather expressions with hacer.

¿Qué tiempo hace hoy? What’s the weather like today?

Hace frío. It’s cold.� Hace buen tiempo hoy. The weather is nice today.

Some conditions will use the verb: estar.

​

Está nublado hoy. It’s cloudy today.

Está soleado. It’s sunny.�

To say that it rains or snows, use the following verbs, in the present tense: llover (to rain) and nevar (to snow).

� Siempre llueve aquí por la tarde. It always rains here in the afternoons.

Nieva hoy. It’s snowing today.
