Curriculum Writing Process

  • After county-level curriculum writing finalized, local districts were able to adapt to meet the needs of their districts.
  • Team of teachers collaboratively working together to develop units of study for grade bands:
    • K-2
    • 3-5
    • 6
  • Development of a Scope and Sequence in July 2022 to identify when units of study will take place.
  • Committee: Health and PE Teachers, other teachers, and administrators
    • Review of documents and process with Board Members on the Curriculum Committee (Laura Erber, Pam Zeleznok, and Howard Berry).

Little Egg Harbor Opt-Out Policy

  • Opt Out Policy 2422
    • In accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7, any student whose parent presents to the Principal a signed statement that any part of the instruction in health, family life education, or sex education is in conflict with his/her conscience or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course.
    • Alternative Learning Space will be provided
    • Alternative Assignment in lieu of class participation/project (completed at home) based on these standards.
  • Little Egg Harbor will share a detailed letter regarding Comprehensive Health and PE instruction from the Office of Instructional Services.
  • School districts have been advised by the NJDOE to not offer an opt-in policy and to ensure they are proactive with the opt-out policy.
