Trick or treating evolved from an old practice known as “souling” where poor people would go door to door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for food. Today, children dress in costumes and go from house to house collecting candy, saying the famous line: “Trick or treat!”

The carving of Jack o’Lanterns came from the Irish myth of “Stingy Jack”. Originally, turnips were carved, but when Irish immigrants brought the tradition to America, They began using pumpkins, which were more abundant. Today, Jack o‘Lanterns are a central Halloween decoration.
