Purpose: Extraordinary chocolate

Business Done Properly

They ensure that their staff, customers, communities we touch, and the environment are considered as part of our decision-making process.

Their Vision

To become britain’s greatest little chocolate company

Their are fun-loving, they love what they do, they don’t take themselves seriously, they like to make people smile

Two lawyers who didn't like what they were doing

decided to leave everything to go to South America

In 2000 they started their montezuma's chocolates with a shop in Brighton.

Analysis of their brand packaging

You can find the M on all their product, only the details in the corners change in order to adapt to the product.

The colours used are very bright

Reusable or 100% biodegradable or recycled

For chocolate bars, the packaging is a cardboard box that opens from the top and the chocolate is wrapped in paper

After tearing the paper, the squares break one by one until reaching the part with the star, which pushes to eat larger pieces

Every piece of packaging on every chocolate, that they sell, is recyclable, biodegradable or compostable.

Market analysis and user

Montezuma's chocolate is one of the most expensive on the market, especially since the bar is only 90 grams, so the customer must be satisfied.

Montezuma's customer is therefore a person seeking quality, they want to appreciate chocolate while respecting the environment as much as possible.

This chocolate has therefore to be savored and is perfect to offer.

Origin of the brand name

Moctezuma Xocoyotzin

The ninth ruler of the Aztec empire, (1466-1520) he was seized by the Spanish conquistadores, who used him to control and rule the empire.

Cocoa beans were used by the Aztecs in numerous ceremonies, as currency, and consumed primarily in a drink called chocolatl. Montezuma is said to have consumed around 50 mugs of this drink a day.

Primary Research

I came into direct contact with the brand in order to be able to better understand it and thus best represent it through my project.

I created an online questionnaire in order to have a general opinion from people about chocolate

Idea 1

Rose to offer to her/his lover at any time of the year, with a message hidden in the hollow stem.

Our user is an adult who likes quality chocolate and wants to please someone they appreciate. The moment of consumption is therefore for an occasion during the year.

The packaging is 100% recyclable but can also be kept as a souvenir.

Idea 2

For this idea, I decided to go back to the origins of chocolate with an Aztec jar filled with chocolates in the shape of vegetables that the Aztec people were eating so that all the children could eat their 5 vegetables a day.

The jar is inspired by the olla del dios Tláloc jar

The strong cardboard packaging can also be kept and be used as a piggy bank so that children can see the value of money by comparing it to the percentage donated to Children on the edge

A percentage of the purchase of this chocolate jar is donated to the Children on the Edge organization

First sketches

The user is a child and this type of chocolate can be consumed every day of the year. This product can be shared.

Idea 3

This idea consists of chocolate lollipops with aztec designs on them. The user cannot see which model they have in their package in order to push them for consumption.

First sketches

Our user can be a child as well as an adult and this chocolate can be consumed all year round. This product can be shared

The idea is to dip the lollipop in hot milk in order to make hot chocolate and therefore to remind the aztec mystic drink: the chocolatl.

I chose to keep the idea 3

I removed the design graphic, and embossed the lollipops instead.

In addition, the lollipops are hollow inside with milk chocolate powder so that it melts better in the hot milk.

Lollipops Sketch Models

I started by creating molds on solidworks in order to print them with the 3D printer

3D printed mold

3D printing of the molds took too long so I decided to make silicone molds

Lollipops Sketch Models - Final Molds

The silicone attracted all the dust so I decided to go for plastic molds made using a vacuum former.
