Mrs. Holland
HELLO AND WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE!
My name is Mrs. Holland. This is my 16th year teaching and my 7th year at Woodridge. I have taught second grade for my entire career.
I’m from a small town named La Vernia.
I attended Texas State University and earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
I’m married and have 2 kids of my own. Braxton is going to be attending 4th grade this year and Brynn is starting 1st grade.
I’m looking forward to getting to know your child and working with you! It is important that we all work together as a team in order to help your child learn and grow.
Our day begins at 8:15am and ends at 3:30pm. If your child needs to be picked up early, please send a note to school or give me a call prior to noon to make sure we send your child home the correct way.
For your child’s safety, we cannot change a child’s mode of transportation without written notification or direct phone call from a legal guardian.

Rule 2 | Be Respectful |
Rule 3 | Be safe |
Rule 4 | Be Responsible |
Rule 5 | Always try your best |
Learning is our priority. We have five classroom rules in
order to stay on task and keep learning.
Homework:
All children will have one homework calendar to complete each month. Each night they should read for 10 minutes and complete one choice on the homework choice board. This homework should not take any longer than 20 minutes to complete. If your child takes longer than that, it’s okay for them to stop. Please make sure all homework is returned in the yellow folder.
Spelling Homework:
Starting the second week of school, we will begin taking spelling tests. We will send home a weekly spelling list. Please make sure your child practices these words every day.
Second grade is pivotal in your child’s academic success. By the end of the year, your child should be able to read 90 words per minute. In order to do so, each child must read a minimum of 10 minutes per day. If they struggle to read, it is okay for you, or a sibling, to read to them. As the year progresses, they should begin reading independently.
We will be sending home small readers to practice reading at home. I recommend that they be stored in one place so that they can be read multiple times at home to practice fluency. These books are very important and should be read to someone each night.
We will be completing progress monitoring every month with your child so that you are aware of your child’s fluency progress towards our end of the year goal.
If there is a change in transportation for the day, please notify the office before noon so that there is enough time to get the message from the office. Please note that we cannot change your child’s mode of transportation for the day without verbal or written guardian consent.
If you need to schedule appointments, we recommend doing so on early dismissal days or after school. This will ensure that your child does not miss any instruction.
If you are planning a long trip, please speak with me. I can prepare work packets so that your child does not get behind and has something to practice while they’re away.
If you ever have any questions, please give me a call at 210-826-8021. You can leave a message and I will return your phone call as soon as possible. We can also make an appointment to meet before or after school.
If you prefer electronic correspondence, I can be reached at:

If you would like to meet in person, my conference time is from 8:40-9:35 a.m.
