Mission Statement

Unity Harbour, established in Oregon, a state where the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) ensures access to gender-affirming care, reproductive rights, and support for disabled individuals, serves as a beacon of hope. This transitional shelter will be a sanctuary for those fleeing oppressive laws and environments. Residents benefit from inclusive and supportive resources such as childcare and internet access, enabling them to reclaim agency and pursue opportunities even during challenging times.

Community Hub: Unity Harbour serves as a vibrant community hub, akin to a bustling town square where individuals gather to access a variety of essential services and resources. Just as a town square provides a centralized location for social interaction, commerce, and cultural exchange, Unity Harbour offers a centralized space for individuals to access healthcare, employment assistance, childcare, and other support services while fostering a sense of belonging and community.

We strive to foster hope, empowerment, and action through community engagement and support. Unity Harbour is proud to be a beacon of support, recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under EIN 991531465. Contributions to our cause are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permissible by law, empowering us to continue our vital mission.
  2. Grants?: Grants take time and a grant writer, which takes money. Nonprofits have to start with funding and earn the grant which will help it grow into a branch scenario of helping others or expanding that location, if eligible. Grants are very particular. We have a friend who knows a grant writer in Washington with some connections that may be able to help after that paperwork is finalized. It takes awhile and lots of extra steps with extra costs.

Sustainability – Child Care

  • Initial Phase (3 months):
    • Under 10 kids
    • No employee costs, as you're not fully operational yet.
  • Steady Phase (9 months):
    • 30 kids
    • 3 employees (30 kids / 10 kids per employee)
    • Employee cost: 3 employees * $45,000 = $135,000 per year

Now, let's calculate the revenue and expenses:

  • Revenue:
    • Revenue per child: $800 per child per month
    • Revenue for 30 kids for 9 months: $800 per child * 30 kids * 9 = $216,000
  • Expenses:
    • Initial Phase: $0
    • Steady Phase: $135,000

Now, let's sum up the total revenue and total expenses:

  • Total revenue = Revenue from Steady Phase = $216,000

Sustainability – Child Care

Total expenses = InitialPhase expenses + Steady Phase expenses = $0 + $135,000 = $135,000

Now, let's calculate the profit:

Profit = Total revenue - Total expenses

Profit = $216,000 - $135,000

Profit = $81,000

Sustainability – Child Care

Let's calculate the revenue and expenses for a daycare with 60 kids, charging $800 per child.

  1. Employee Costs:
    • Number of employees needed: 60 kids / 10 kids per employee = 6 employees
    • Total annual employee cost: 6 employees * $45,000 = $270,000
  2. Revenue:
    • Revenue per child: $800 per child per month
    • Total monthly revenue: $800 * 60 kids = $48,000
    • Total annual revenue: $48,000 * 12 months = $576,000
  3. Expenses:
    • Employee costs: $270,000 (as calculated above)

Sustainability – Child Care

    • Now, let's sum up the total revenue and total expenses:
      1. Total revenue = $576,000
      2. Total expenses = Employee costs = $270,000
      3. Now, let's calculate the profit:
      4. Profit = Total revenue - Total expenses
      5. Profit = $576,000 - $270,000
      6. Profit = $306,000
        1. So, with 60 kids enrolled and charging $800 per child, the daycare would have a profit of $306,000 annually.

Ongoing issue for pregnant people in Idaho already

  • The article highlights the challenges faced by pregnant women in Bonner County, Idaho, following the closure of the obstetrics department at Bonner General Health. The closure has resulted in a lack of nearby obstetric care, forcing pregnant women to travel longer distances to receive maternity services. The departure of the hospital's OB-GYNs, who moved to states with legal abortion, is attributed to Idaho's restrictive abortion laws.
  • Several pregnant women shared their experiences, expressing concerns about the increased travel times, logistical burdens, financial difficulties, stress, and anxiety caused by the closure. The article also mentions potential health consequences for women and babies due to reduced access to obstetrics care, including a higher risk of preterm birth.
  • The closure of maternity services at Bonner General Health is linked to the state's abortion ban, which has been in effect since August 2022. The article highlights the broader impact of restrictive abortion policies on maternity care access and the healthcare workforce. The departure of OB-GYNs from Idaho to states with legal abortion is seen as a trend, with potential implications for maternal health in the state.

The president is discussing possibly opening another daycare near the nonprofit since this daycare will have a max of 30 kids, likely. Also room rentals for long term residents or employee would be good
