    • Read instructions slowly, carefully, and fully.
    • Provide ALL required documentation for the application (resumes, cover letters, transcripts, certification, etc.)
    • Rush through the process.
    • Skim over the directions.
    • Appear carless about requirements
    • Appear above the rules or “to good to.”

    • Create a strong password for company applications and job search sites.
    • Update information on applications and job search sites if allowed (phone number, address, etc.)

    • Set up and check voicemail and email.
    • Always try to print, copy, and/or save your application if possible.
    • Lose, forget, or share your password.
    • Forget to update your contact information.

    • Be careless with copy/save placement of job application materials. You will need them for future reference.

    • Answer all open-ended question thoughtfully and carefully.
    • Answer questions with facts.
    • Avoid capitalization, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and content errors.
    • Make sure all information is complete and correct.
    • If question or field doesn’t apply to you, reply with N/A

    • Skip free-response questions even if optional.
    • Stay away from options.
    • Forget to run spell check and have someone proof-read your responses and materials.
    • Enter incomplete, misleading, or vague information.
    • Leave responses blank.

Reasonable Information

Do:

    • Ensure information on application is consistent with your resume, cover letter, social media profiles, and interview answers.
    • Provide all reasonably requested information. (certifications, transcripts, social, date of birth, citizenship status.)

Don’t:

    • Contradict Information
    • Supply bank information or credit card information.

Do:

    • Ask people to be a reference for you prior to applying.
      • Teachers
      • Managers
    • Gather their information and keep it updated for use!
    • List phony or weak references.
    • Don’t use:
      • Friends
      • Relatives
      • Co-Workers
    • List old contact information for your references.
