Welcome

What is Concurrent Enrollment?

  • Iowa Senior Year Plus legislation
  • Concurrent Enrollment lets high school students take college classes while in high school.
  • Students can earn both high school and college credit at the same time.

How does it work?

  • Davenport Schools partners with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges(EICC) on specific course offerings
  • Davenport North offers the full 62 credit hours to earn an Associate of Arts Degree from EICC

Where do I take the college classes?

  • At North High School
    • With EICC approved high school faculty or EICC instructors
  • Online
    • With EICC instructors

Benefits of Concurrent Enrollment

  • Earn college credits while in high school

Students can earn college credits while still in high school, potentially shortening the time needed to complete a college degree.

  • Experience college-level coursework

Concurrent enrollment allows students to explore potential majors and career paths before committing to a college program.

  • Save on college tuition

Through Iowa legislation, students can attend contracted courses with the college at no cost!

Textbooks for concurrent and CCIR classes are covered too!

  • Smooth transition to college

Students gain exposure to college-level coursework and expectations, easing the transition from high school to college.

Program Requirements

  • Students must maintain a 2.5 EICC & DCSD grade point average.

  • Students must test ‘proficient’ on all areas of ISASP testing each year of high school

  • Program is rigorous, but very rewarding. It is difficult for some students to balance “being involved” or to “be a high school student” while taking the college courses in this program.

  • DCSD & EICC faculty are regularly reviewing student academic progress

Program Requirements (cont.)

  • SCC will make strong recommendations related to completing coursework in an alternative delivery method (summer offering for repeat courses etc.) to those who have demonstrated lack of adequate progress
  • DCSD will place students on probation that are not meeting the minimum requirements to stay in the program
  • If students do not progress adequately in the program, they will be dismissed.
