Quick Note

  • Emails and social media are great tools, but the heart and soul of fundraising, just like organizing, is the one-on-one conversation.
  • Someone who donates from an email and social media would donate 10X the amount if asked directly
    • $5 online vs. $50 directly, $50 online vs. $500 directly, etc.
  • Therefore: these tips focus on getting more donors, not on existing donors contributing more - that comes from

1-on-1s, house parties, community events, etc.

Email

  • Bare minimum: 1-2 sentences about the fundraising campaign, 1-2 sentences on why you’re excited, donation link
  • Cast a wide net - expect <10% of those you email to contribute
  • At least 3 touchpoints
    • 1st time they ignore, 2nd time they say they will but forget, 3rd time they’ll donate
  • Make the only links donation links and bold them
  • PS is most read line in an email - insert donation link

  • Ask close friends to like/share/repost your original post
  • Each day, update on how much you’ve raised in stories or original post
    • “I’m XX% of the way to my goal! Who can contribute $Y to help me get over the top?”
  • DM/text/call people who’ve reacted to your post but haven’t

given yet

  • Think about “themed” posts to post every day of the week with

your fundraising link
