[2nd GRADe] This week we focused on...
Daily 5: This week’s read alouds focused on various books related to Earth Day! The students learned about the Great Outdoors and how everyone can play a role in taking care of it and enjoying it! The class also spent time outside with their favorite books.
Writing: The 2nd Graders went down memory lane early in the week and opened their future letters from last year’s Earth Week. Throughout the week, the class worked on this year’s Earth Week letter to their 3rd Grade self.
Theme: The 1st and 2nd Graders went to the Chicago Botanic Garden and learned about worms! The class learned about compost, worm bins, and different types of worms. It was a beautiful day to also journal and draw various plants they found in different habitats.
EE: Ms. Naomi kicked off Earth Week with an introduction assembly on Monday! The class learned about the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights, which connected with this year’s theme: earth for everyone. The class also visited their Solo Spot and journaled about what the Earth Week theme meant to them.
This week’s Math Homework was pages 161-164 and 165-166. No Math Homework this weekend.
[1st GRADE MATH] This week we focused on...
This week the 1st Graders continued to help Hansel and Gretel with their paths. The characters laid down all their breadcrumbs, pinecones, and pebbles. Therefore, the task was to make the paths into beautiful ones. The 1st Graders were given the task to make paths of 10 or 20 steps using fences, benches, trashcans, or flowerpots to beautify the paths. The class created different combinations of 10 and 20 using those items. The students also continued practicing and learning about lines of symmetry and reviewing counting to 120. Later in the week, the students looked for symmetry in nature and went on a bird walk. The class tallied up how many birds they saw on the walk.
This week’s Math Homework was pages 113-114. No Math Homework this weekend.
