Lesson 12
The Millennium
2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
Revelation 20.2-6
BASIC BIBLICAL TEXT
6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. 9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah 11.6-9
BASIC BIBLICAL TEXT
The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.
Zechariah 14.9
GOLDEN TEXT
* Identify the Millennium following the order of eschatological events;
* Understand that the Millennium will be a time of absolute peace, harmony and transformations for the glory of God (Is 65.17-25);
* Understand that in this time of a thousand years, of peace, justice and prosperity, Satan will be imprisoned and the world will be under the absolute government of Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords..
OBJECTIVES
Since the Fall, in Eden, men have dreamed of a time of peace, security and prosperity, in which the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls, who will play in them (Zech 8.5).
With hope, we await the day when the wheat will grow faster than it can be harvested, and the vines will produce grapes faster than wine can be made (Amos 9:13).
This time of fulfilling promises is wonderfully described in the Bible as the Millennium (Is 11.1-9).
INTRODUCTION
"The Book of Revelation is one of the main sources of eschatology, or study of the end times, and its eschatology is consistent with the rest of the New Testament. Every Christian can have the certainty of life after death. Christians can also have the certainty of his personal resurrection and the reward for a righteous life lived on earth." (VARUGHESE, A. Central Gospel, 2012).
MIRACLES AND TRANSFORMATIONS ERA

Miracles in spiritual life
1 - MIRACLES AND TRANSFORMATIONS ERA
With the establishment of the Millennium, unlike the Great Tribulation, there will be a broad and full operation of the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ will command, together with the saved, a time of a thousand years of peace, justice, prosperity, transformations and miracles never seen before (Isaiah 65.17-25).
1.1 – Miracles in nature
Nature will be transformed by the miracle of fertility: dry places will become verdant gardens (Ez 34.26,27); water will be abundant (Is 30.25); the geological and hydrographic configuration of the planet will be modified; the illumination will be sufficient (Is 30.26); and the fruits of the trees will serve as food, and their leaves as medicine (Ez 47.12).
1.1.1 – Miracles in the animal world
In the Millennium, there will be no carnivorous or predatory animals, but only herbivores (Is 11.6-8). As in the beginning of Creation, the different species will coexist peacefully.
1.2 - Miracles in the physical body
There will be no physical deformities: the blind will have their eyes open; the deaf will hear; the lame will leap; and the mute will be able to speak normally (Is 35.5,6).
Add to this the longevity of individuals (Is 65.20-22): human survival will increase considerably, easily exceeding one hundred years of existence (Is 33.24; Ez 34.16).
1.3 - Miracles in material life
This will be a time of great economic prosperity (Amos 9.13-15): people will have enough to live comfortably, without any loss; there will be no need or needy (Is 65.21,22; Joel 2.21-27).
1.4 - Miracles in Goverment and administration
In the Millennium, the form of administration will be theocratic (government of God). He who has the principality on his shoulders will not allow any type of dictatorship, oppression or manipulation (Is 14.3-6; Zec 9.11,12).
1.4.1 - Miracles in the military life
Concord - individual and international - will only be possible because the governments of the world will be unified in a single Kingdom: that of Christ.
1.5 - Miracles in spiritual life
With the unification of the government and the military transformation, another important point will be the linguistic unification in interpersonal relationships (Zeph 3.19), which will enable, above all, the worship of the true God and Jesus Christ, the ruling Messiah (Is 66.17- 23; Mal 1.11).
THE CAPITAL OF THE MILLENNIUM
Its historical and religious value
2 – THE CAPITAL OF THE MILLENNIUM
Its strategic place
Its spiritual importance
2.1 - Its historical and religious value
Jerusalem, the Holy Land, the city most cited in every biblical text (1 Sm 17.54; 2 Sm 5.7; 6.1-19; 24.25; 2 Chr 3.1; Lc 2.22; Mt 21; 23.37; 24), attracts the eyes of the world to itself, not only for its historical value, but, above all, for its religious importance.
The allegory of enthronement - "(...) the resurrected reign with Christ for a thousand years (Rev 20.6) and forever (Rev 22.5). Those persecuted for their faith would be comforted to understand that their brief suffering of ten days (Rev 2.10) cannot be compared to his exaltation for a thousand years" (ROTZ, C. Central Gospel, 2015).
2.2 - Its strategic place
From a simple look at the world map, the city of Jerusalem can be identified: it is in the hearts of the people. God surrounded the city with high, protective mountains, making it a natural fortress (Ps 125:2).
2.3 - Its spiritual importance
After Armageddon, the city and the temple of the Jews will be restored, and the people of the whole world will go up to Jerusalem every year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty (Zech 14:16). Jerusalem will be called the throne of the Lord (Jer 3:17): a place of blessings for the Gentile nations (Zec 8:22) and of honor for the Jews (Zec 8:23).
MILLENNIUM PARTICIPANTS
The glorified believers
3 – MILLENNIUM PARTICIPANTS
The Great Tribulation survivals
3.1 - The glorified believers
Biblical prophecies let us know that glorified saints and survivors of the Great Tribulation will participate in the millennial dispensation.
All the saved and martyrs of all ages will participate in the Millennium, with rights to all the blessings arising from this dispensation (Rev 20.4-6)
What will happen to Satan at the beginning of the Millennium? He will be imprisoned in the abyss by an angel, who will place him in a great chain, that is, in a dark place, which will limit his sphere of action and evil influence (Rev 20.1-3).
3.2 - The Great Tribulation survivals
Will there be other types of bodies in the Millennium, besides the glorified ones (1 Cor 15.51-53; Heb 11.35)? According to Harold Willmington (2015), the answer is yes, and these will be the non-glorified bodies of those who survived the cataclysm of the Great Tribulation; of Jewish believers (Mt 25:10); of Gentile believers (Mt 25.34) and of children who will be born during the Millennium (Zc 8.5).
Although some theological segments attribute a figurative meaning to the duration of this event, biblical prophecies clearly indicate that the Millennium will be a period of a thousand literal years - each year, with 365 days.
In the Millennium, God will demonstrate, on earth, what heaven will be like. Jesus will reign eternally over the house of Jacob, and his Kingdom will have no end (Luke 1:33).
CONCLUSION
GOD BLESS YOU!
