  • The language of flowers, or what is sometimes called fluorography, is an encrypted means of communication that works using flowers or their arrangement. Meanings have been attributed to flowers for thousands of years, and some forms of the language of flowers were circulated in some traditional cultures in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Interest in the language of flowers increased in the Victorian era and the United States during the nineteenth century, and gifts of flowers and plants, especially flower arrangements, were used to send encrypted messages to the future, allowing the sender to express his feelings that he could not express in Victorian society.
