4. Always keep the safety guard in place when using the joiner.
5. Never put your hands directly over the cutter head when using the joiner.

6. Never adjust the joiner when it is running.
7. The normal depth of cut for general purpose edge joining is 1/16”
8. The normal depth of cut for face jointing is 1/32”.

9. The minimum length of wood that can be used is dependent upon the machine. 6” Jointer= 6” minimum length. 8” Jointer = 8” minimum length. Note: The teacher may INCREASE the length requirement.
10. The maximum width of stock that can be face jointed is equal to the size(width) of the joiner.

11. Never joint end grain on the joiner.
12. Always use push blocks/pads when face jointing the wood.

13. Always use a push stick when edge jointing any piece that is less than the height of the fence.
14. Never adjust the out feed table on the joiner in this lab.

5. Measure the wood to make sure that it meets the minimum length requirements for the joiner you are using

6. Check the depth of cut setting on the joiner:

7. Check the fence to make sure that it is square (90 degrees)

8. Face the grain forward and up to avoid tear-out of the wood

9. Turn the jointer on
10. When edge jointing:
this board would need to be turned over before jointing

12. Stand to the side of the machine and move with the stock as needed when jointing longer pieces (
13. Continue to keep hands clear of cutter head throughout the cut
14. Turn machine off
15. Wait till the blades have come to a complete stop before leaving the joiner area
