Dr. Shirley Clem

460 63rd Street, Oakland

At Peralta we integrate our social-emotional curriculum beginning in kindergarten, allowing students to become skilled problem solvers who take responsibility for keeping our campus peaceful.

Examples of integrated social-emotional activities:

  • Cross Grade Level Buddies
  • Daily Classroom Meetings
  • Mindfulness Practices, such as various forms of meditation, yoga
  • Calm-Down Stations
  • Gathering student feedback, such as through a weekly check-in form, or on daily math worksheets,
  • Collaborating to determine our school mascot
  • Expressing through art
  • Monday morning school-wide assemblies
  • Art and Chil, a social hangout on Zoom
  • Drumming

Peralta’s community includes dedicated parents that help support all students and teachers in any way they can.

Portrait of a Lifelong Learner

Student 1: It’s important for people to compromise when they collaborate, because if they don’t they’ll just be stuck. They’ll leave with those feelings and pass it onto the next person they see.

Our parent community...

  • Maintains our beautiful school gardens
  • Created outdoor learning spaces
  • Builds community through: Coffee Talks and a yearly camping trip
  • Fundraise: yearly auction, Peralta in Bloom, Walk-A-Thon
  • PPTG: Peralta Parent-Teach Group

1st Annual (?) #PeraltaSTEAM Night

Student 2: Then those feelings will land up coming back around to you.
