  • Total of 46 responses

  • Teacher retention and neurodiversity support were the most supported programs believed to benefit the entire community.
  • 80% of VSPA support engaging alumni student & families
  • 18% of those who completed the survey have experience with a non-profit organization
  • 2 comments
  • Volunteers - some of which have non-profit experience

Percent Support of Proposed Non-Profit

49 of 67

VSPA 501(c)(3) Non-profit Survey Results

Percent Support of Proposed Programs

50 of 67

  • Separate entity status, organization can enter its own contracts which will be valid regardless of who is on the VSPA board
  • Perpetual entity status
  • Enhanced credibility in the community
  • Upside potential for fundraising in a broader community
  • Some grants/funding is only available to organizations that have non-profit status.

Non-profit Implementation Benefits

51 of 67

  • Cost to file paperwork, legal fees and IRS filings
  • Additional volunteer time to file paperwork, create nonprofit guidelines and a 3-year strategy for implementation
  • Year on year additional time to file taxes with the IRS

Non-profit Implementation Difficulties

52 of 67

  • The VSPA board has decided, with support from the survey, that it is in the best interest of the organization to move forward with a move to non-profit status.
  • We acknowledge the concerns around a non-profit status associated with a for-profit school, however, VSPA is following the example of other Nord Anglia parent’s associations (BISH) who also filed for 501 c(3).

Non-profit Next Steps

53 of 67

  • Reached out to parents with non-profit background and interest in participating in the VSPA Non-Profit Committee
  • Board voted on moving forward with a VSPA Non-Profit Committee
  • Formed the VSPA Non-Profit Committee
  • Filed the LLC and EIN for the Non-Profit via LegalZoom, and expected to have the articles and official documents by 09/25
  • Next steps: Committee will meet to start creating bylaws, processes and programs and develop calendar of paperwork filing and non-profit guidelines that need to be met
