Last Day Blues by Julie Danneberg.

Remember “First Day Jitters” with the funny twist at the end? Well, here’s Mrs. Hartwell again -- only it’s now the last day of school! Let’s read and find out how Mrs. Hartwell (and her awesome kids) are doing at the end of the year.

Story

Oh No! Time To Go! By Rebecca Doughty

Funny illustrations, rhyming text, goodbyes big and small, and a reassuring message -- for every goodbye, there’s also a hello.

I won’t pre-record myself reading this book. I really enjoy KidTimeStoryTime’s read-alouds! :)

Activity 1

Journal together:

What was your favorite center in PK? Maybe blocks, dramatic play, math? Gross motor area, Big Blue blocks, art? Whatever center it was, draw and write about your favorite PK center from our school year together!

Peace Like a River

Another favorite song, but this one is so calm and relaxing! The children really took to this song this year -- they would take deep breaths, focus deeply and act out the gentle motions of the song.

Story

I Wish You More by Amy Krause Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld

Whimsical illustrations and simple text with a positive spin.

Activity 1

Journal together:

We did so many things this school year! Field trips to Hawai’i Nature Center and Children’s Discovery Center. Gingerbread decorating with families and a PJ Movie Day. Learning about volcanoes, rocks, weather, the uka, the kula, and communities. We tried to garden! We grew “seed babies” and ate lunch and snacks together. We built all kinds of things, painted together and by ourselves, and made different vehicles to “drive” around the town we made in the gross motor area. We watched a Chinese New Year puppet show by 3rd grade buddies, and had 4th grade buddies come over to play most Friday afternoons.

Draw and write about one or more of your favorite preschool memories!
