Garden Rules

2. Stay as clean and dry as possible.

3. No running, horseplay, or yelling. Complete your assignment, then observe the rest of the garden.

4. Be respectful of others. Respect the garden.

In Brookwood School Garden, we use the Square Foot Gardening Method. Depending on the size of the plant, a certain amount can grow in a square foot. Larger plants need more space, smaller plants need less space.

Our raised garden beds have strings on them to divide them into square feet. The beds at Brookwood are 6’ x 3’ so there are 18 square feet in each raised bed. The beds at Highland are 3’ x 3’ so there are 9 square feet in each bed.

Before the break seeds were planted in the garden. It’s up to you to figure out what is growing in the beds. Study the plants in this slideshow. Notice what the leaves look like, and how many grow in a square foot. Then, observe the garden and look for clues weekly. In May/June we will harvest all the vegetables and have a salad! (harvest details to follow)
