Who took part in the group mobility?

One primary and two secondary School teachers from IE Giner de los Ríos were hosted by the Cardiff Council Immersion Unit (Uned Drochi Iaith Caerdydd) and associated schools in Cardiff.

What was the focus of the visit?

This mobility provided insight into best practices in multilingual education and pupil integration, supporting the development of language-sensitive pedagogy and inclusive classroom strategies. It also contributed to the broader goals of global citizenship education by encouraging cultural empathy and professional exchange across educational systems.

Sessions and institutions observed: Uned Drochi Iaith Caerdydd, Ysgol Groes-wen, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Glan Ceubal, Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf, Ysgol Bro Edern. All year groups and sessions, including Forest School.

Reflection from visitors

Taking part in this job shadowing programme in Cardiff has been an enriching experience both professionally and personally. Observing the work of the Immersion Unit and the partner schools allowed me to see how language support can be provided in such an inclusive and engaging way. I was particularly impressed by the emphasis on creating a welcoming environment for pupils from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and by the practical strategies teachers used to make learning accessible to everyone.

The opportunity to discuss ideas with colleagues here has inspired me to adapt some of these approaches in my own classroom.

Beyond the professional insights, I also valued the cultural exchange and the warm hospitality we received throughout our visit. Diolch Rhian a’r tîm!
