Project for VC interoperability on different blockchains: Aigües de Barcelona, CaixaBank and Validated ID

The solution showcased how to request, hold and present VCs supported on different blockchains using his sole VIDchain wallet. EIDAS Bridge

eIDAS Bridge closes the gap between Verifiable Credentials and existing regulation, making possible to validate the signer of a credential using the eIDASv1 trust framework, by enabling the sealing of verifiable credentials using qualified certificates. This way, the eIDAS bridge adds legal value to verifiable credentials making possible to validate the qualified seal over the credential in compliance with current validation protocols.

  • Business value: Verifiable credential is still under revision in the eIDASv2 draft. The eIDAS bridge tackles this issue by providing a service for sealing a VC using the qualified seal of the Issuer. Validated ID provides the eIDAS bridge as a service.
  • Funding: ~155k by NGI eSSIF-Lab. Then own funds for commercial service.
  • Stage: Project finished end of June 2021 with an open source pilot implementation of the eIDAS bridge. eIDAS bridge was further developed to a production ready integrated in VIDchain issuing and verifying modules, offered as an enterprise service.

  • Market size: All legal persons in the European digital identity market that want to start using verifiable credentials but concern about compliance with eIDASv1 and validation TSL.
  • Operating Mode: Enterprise service included in VIDcredentials module to be integrated with Issuer’s application via API, and VIDconnect module for verification plus all the certificate verifications (not expired nor revoked, CA in TSL). Compliant with VIDwallet.
  • Technologies: W3C VCs, W3C DIDs, X509 certificates, OCSP. Qualified seal signatures in compliance with eIDAS

eIDAS VCert Bridge

eIDAS Cert Bridge allows a holder to generate a Verifiable ID credential from an existing digital certificate. The process proof the user certificate ownership plus all the certificate verifications (not expired nor revoked, CA in a TSL). The verification process allows verifying that the certificate associated to the credential is still valid

  • Business value: : It’s a very easy way to self-issue a Verifiable ID type credential based in existing qualified personal or representation certificates, much better and cheaper than KYC video processes. In case of legal representative certificates, it creates also a credential over the company VAT number.
  • Funding: Own funds
  • Stage: Service available at certbridge.vidchain.net The credential includes the certificate used in the authentication and signing process, so verifiers could be designed to request presentations based on those personal and company credentials.

  • Market size: All personal and legal persons in the European digital identity market that want to start using verifiable ID credentials and services requesting V.ID in compliance with eIDASv1 and validation TSL.
  • Operating Mode: At the moment it is a free service. It could be included in our enterprise service included in VIDcredentials module. Already compliant with VIDwallet and our VIDconnect verification module.
  • Technologies: W3C VCs, W3C DIDs, X509 certificates, OCSP. Qualified signatures in compliance with eIDAS
