Springfield, MA has it's good, bad and ugly. There is a lot of urban blight and some spots are shady, so it really depends on where you live. But that's the same for most small cities these days. I live in Hill McKnight, working class families mostly, and mostly single family homes. One big problem to contend with are absentee landlords who haphazardly buy homes and rent them out to anyone with Section 8. Sometimes these folks don't give a damn, and have lots of visitors that don't give a damn that you and your family have been living in the neighborhood for 30 years, or that you have to get up for work in the morning, or that you like a clean neighborhood. Even if you have 8 decent families on one street, it only takes 2 absentee landlord houses to make life unbearable. My opinion only. If I were moving here I would try to get a feel for my neighbors first, I would ask if the homes nearby are owner occupied. If you are getting an apartment, then really you want to make sure it's in a decent area. I realize that's a broad term because there are some people from surrounding tows who like to poo-poo our city (as if they live in Beverly Hills) I love Springfield in many ways. We are the home of Basketball, The City of Homes, the first gas powered car, Indian Motorcycle, home of Dr. Suess, the GWVS Art Museum, and Smith & Wesson. Baystate Medical is a great hospital (except for their emergency room) and everything here is human scale. It takes about 15 minutes to travel 15 miles. Granted, we are about to get a casino, so look forward to traffic, and a few more jobs. That said, most of the people are blue collar and decent, with a peppering of rude, disrespectful people who expect others to take care of them

What is Adaptation?
