What is Adaptation?

  • Exposure is the amount and rate of change from direct (e.g., temperature, precipitation changes) or indirect (e.g., habitat shifts due to changing vegetation composition) impacts of climate change;
  • Sensitivity refers to dependency on environmental conditions likely affected by climate change (e.g., temperature or hydrological requirements); and
  • Adaptive capacity is the ability to cope with changes through acclimation, migration, adaptation, and/or evolution.
