What is PSEO?

  • Post Secondary Enrollment Options

  • Students take classes at colleges/universities and can earn college and high school credit at the same time

  • Tuition, fees, and textbooks are at no cost to students

  • Students may take courses on a full or part-time basis

  • Students start their college transcript

  • Program run by the MN Dept of Edu

Who is Eligible?

Juniors & Seniors

Can not take more than 21 high school credits in a year

Colleges may set their own limitations

Sophomores

May enroll in one Career Technical Education (CTE) course in first term

Eligibility

Each college sets their own eligibility requirements.

These may include GPA, test score(s), and/or class rank.

Admissions Criteria

Normandale Community College

11th Graders:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • OR ranked in the top ⅓ of their graduating class

12th Graders:

  • GPA of 2.6 of higher
  • OR ranked in the top ½ of their graduating class

*students may qualify through placement tests

10th Graders:

  • PSEO is not offered

11/12th Graders:

  • GPA of 3.6 or higher
  • Rigorous coursework
  • Average GPA of students: 3.93

  • Low PSEO grades affect your high school GPA and permanent college transcript

  • Required courses may be unavailable or full

  • High school & college daily schedule do not align

  • Colleges do not notify high schools if students are struggling

  • Reduced parental involvement

  • Some selective colleges prefer students fully use high school course options before PSEO�

Class Schedule: students should not miss classes at either site

Final Grades: a “C” in 4 credit college class = a “C” for full year class at KHS

Transcripts: grades are posted on high school and college transcripts

Deadlines: Be aware of policies about dropping/withdrawing from a class

Grading: PSEO grades are weighted

Things to consider…

If you Fail or Withdraw from a college class, this could impact your graduation - see your KHS counselor ASAP

Credit Transfers: check with colleges to see if/how credits will transfer

AP vs PSEO?

AP may be better if you:

  • Need or want structure and frequent support�
  • Are aiming for highly selective colleges�
  • Are strong academically but still developing independence
    • Or don’t have transportation available

PSEO may be better if you:

  • Are highly independent, organized, and self-motivated�
  • Are confident managing deadlines and communicating with professors�
  • Plan to attend a public college or community college after high school�
  • Want to reduce future college costs

Step 1: Register for KHS classes

*Your schedule will be updated once you are accepted to the PSEO program and your PSEO schedule is approved by your counselor

Step 2: Fill out and sign Student/Parent PSEO Contract
