Why security awareness

• Technology alone cannot protect you from everything
• Attackers go where security is weakest
• Essential to reducing cybersecurity risk
• Cybersecurity awareness is for..

• identity fraud
• Computer resources

Updating your devices

• What was secure yesterday may not be secure today
• New software vulnerabilities found every day
• Over 360K new malware (viruses & ransomware) released every day
• Nothing is "Set & Forget"

Updates are essential to security

Buckups

• NO level of protection is perfect
• Only 'guaranteed" protection against ransomware
• Backup media should not be connected at all times
• If you backup, have you tested them recently?

• Keep your passwords in a secure location
• Utilize a password manager (aka vault)
• LastPass
• 1Password
• Password generators
• Change them frequently

• Verify the email address
• Are you expecting a link?
• Where does that link takes you?
• Hover over the link
• Is the spelling correct?
• Beware of link shortener
• Email attachement threats

General Tips

• Wifi Hostspot
• Public computers
• Do NOT connect unknown or unauthorized media (or devices)
• Do NOT assume a site is legitimate simply because of the padlock
