Social Change

Individuals are normally recognized in a society through the statuses they occupy and the role they enact.s Not only the society is dynamic but also the individuals are dynamic. Men are normally engaged in endless endeavor to enhance their statues in society, move from lower position in higher position, secure a superior job in the place of an inferior one. for various response people of higher status and position may also be forced to come down to a lower status anda position. Thus people in a society continue to move up and down the status scale. This movement called social mobility.

If everything is dynamic in the society then can we say that the caste system is static?

The answer is NO.

The caste system and it’s rigidity is too changing.

Even the nature of caste operation is also changing.

Vertical Social Change

From one status to another status. It involves change in class, occupation, or power position.

Horizontal Social Change

Horizontal change is a change in position without the change in status. It indicates a change in position within the range of the same status.
