Report on the enactment of Junior Cycle English 2020

  • In feedback on CBA 2 many teachers participating in the review spoke of the opportunities for feedback conversations arising from this CBA, and how this is beneficial for students as it places value on the drafting process.

  • Teachers reported that students benefitted from reflecting on their work and gaining ownership of their writing in the decision-making process of selecting their work for the Collection of Texts.

  • Consider how to integrate into the department plan, summative assessments which require the composition of texts in a variety of genres over time.

  • Develop and share strategies to support student reflection and engagement with feedback.

  • Develop a policy around the storage, development and handover of the collection of student texts materials between teachers across the years.

  • Develop a system where students maintain a working collection of drafts and redrafts and room for editing notes to be made on students' texts.

  • Review use of feedback with a focus on improving the writing craft for students.
