What is A-G?

When we say A-G, we are talking about groups of classes you take in high school categorized and labeled A-G.

A-G classes are part of the requirement for admission to a UC and CSU schools.

A group: Social Studies

B group: English

C group: Mathematics

D group: Science

E group: Foreign Language

F group: Fine Arts

G group: Electives

Groups A and B

Social Studies

  • At least 2 years of social studies classes.
  • 1 year of World History and 1 year of US History.

(You also need Economics and Government to graduate)

English

  • You need to take 4 years of English classes.

MATHEMATICS

  • At least 3 years of math classes. 4 years is better!
  • You must take:
    • Algebra
    • Geometry
    • Adv. Algebra

SCIENCE

  • At least 2 years of science classes. 3 years is better!
  • At least 2 of the following subjects:
    • Biology, Chemistry, Physics

  • At least 2 years of Spanish or French classes. 3 years is better!

FINE ARTS

  • You need to take at least 1 year of fine arts classes.
  • These are also called visual and performing arts classes.
  • Examples: music, theatre, art.
