Registration:

December 4th-21st: Online registration

• Type in all of the elective choices AND alternates in order of priority (the first elective you type in will be your first choice, etc.). If you don’t register, electives will be chosen for you.
• Choose electives carefully. They cannot be changed once the new school year begins.
• Must register for 28 units in IC!!!
• Off Campus is NOT an option unless you are taking Dual Credit course(s) & the course(s) is during the school day.

Community Service

60 hours = .5 elective credit

4. Site supervisor cannot be a relative
5. Hours can only be done at 1 site per 60 hours

Teacher Assistant (TA)/ Counselor Assistant

What is a TA?

Teacher Assistant aka TA is a student that helps a teacher with classroom duties.

• Duties may include: organizing/ filing papers, assisting students, classroom prep.
• Most times, a free period
• NO credit given
• Course name: School Service

Prerequisites:

• Must be on track to complete all 8 elective credits by the end of Junior year
• Teacher signature of approval on registration card

Things to Consider:

• Summer School Information usually gets announced February-March
• Internships, part-time work, etc.
• Eschool classes are supplementary to the 7 Kalani-based classes that you register for
• 2 years of a foreign language is required for some colleges
• Competitive schools may require 3+
• 3 credits of math with a grade of “C” or better that include Algebra 1, Geometry, & Algebra 2 are required for admission to UH Manoa and most other 4-year colleges and universities

In January, (about the same time second quarter report cards are distributed) students will receive a Verification Letter that has the classes they are registered for, but not in any order. THIS is the time to make changes to your schedule.

Capstone Certificate & Diploma

Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.

Honors Recognition Certificate Requirements

In addition to meeting the requirements for the Hawaii High School Diploma, the following must be met with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above for a honors recognition certificate in one or more of the following:

Academic Honors

​

• 4 credits of Math: one credit for Algebra 2 and one credit beyond Algebra 2

​

• 4 credits of Science: one credit must be in Biology 1

(equivalent IB Biology; or AP Biology courses); the other three must be lab-based science credits

​

• Two credits minimum from AP/IB/Running Start courses (equivalent to credits for two college courses)

​

STEM Honors

​

• 4 credits of Math: one credit for Algebra 2 and one beyond Algebra 2**

​

• 4 credits of Science: one must be in Biology 1 (equivalent IB Biology; or AP Biology courses); the other three must be lab-based science credits

​

​

• Successful completion of a STEM Capstone Project/STEM Senior Project in one of the approved ACCN courses

​

​

​

CTE Honors

​

• Two sequential courses in a designated pathway in addition to a corresponding state-identified academic course (earning a “B” or better for all courses)

​

• Meet or exceed proficiency on a performance-based assessment (PBA includes the following components: technical writing, oral presentation and product task)

​

• Acquire a 3.0 cumulative grade point average by

late April of your senior year.

** The 4th credit beyond Alg 2 must be earned via a combination of the following half-credit course [or equivalent IB math course]: Algebra 3, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Precalculus, Intro to College Math
