Driving Question:

How will students enhance their visual literacy of shapes and lines using technology and mobile devices?

Students will identify 5 basic shapes: circle, square, oval, rectangle, and triangle in various groupings and presentations.

Students will use basic shapes and lines create geometric landscapes.

Students recognize shapes and lines in the environment by their visual qualities.

Outcome Goals for Students

Students will become shape experts by knowing and applying their visual qualities. They will learn to differentiate shapes in grouping and in their environment. For example, it is called circle time because we sit in a shape of a circle.

Students will be able to draw, trace, cut out or cut on, and manipulate shapes and lines. For example, they would be able to create a geometric landscape with physical art materials and with technology apps and programs.

Students will become more adept at experimenting with or creating art with technology.

Activities

Starter Activities for iPads in Art Class

Although we would have enough iPads for all students for our first time we will pair share. It is easier to borrow and set up a fewer number and they can help each other.

Students can try free apps like Play123 which we can have loaded to iPads. This one is particularly easy to navigate.

We will use QR Code reader on IPads to take students to two sites I want them to become familiar with, Pic4Learning.com to bring up safe images of shapes. I could also use these images to load for our assessment. The other site is Artsonia.com where we have an online gallery.

Computer Lab: Our instructor has many shape based activities and games available in the lab. I would coordinate with her to have a shape based lab before and/or after our iPad session/s in art class.

Management of Technology Tools

With planning, I can have another adult assistant in the room when we work with the iPads. There are students and classes that have more familiarity with mobile technology than others. The iPads can be checked out an instructor and students logged in as users.
