The gospel writers tell good news
With many a diff’rent theme;
They preach that Jesus and his love
Announces God’s regime.
John writes of Jesus as ‘the gate’
Through which sheep come and go;
He also is the shepherd who
Gives life in which we grow.
The sheep kept safe within the fold
Know only but one voice;
The shepherd calls his sheep by name;
They follow and rejoice.
The thief and robber climb the wall
To kill and to destroy;
The shepherd guides and guards his sheep;
In them he finds his joy.
To follow Jesus brings us life;
Brings life to you and me;
His life and love both teach us how
To live abundantly.
