You’re allowed to be disappointed.

You’re allowed to be angry.

You’re allowed to be scared.

You’re allowed to cry,

but you’re NOT allowed to give up.”

A.I. says Russell Brunson’s Facebook 2025. My slideshow was created in 2021 soooooo…… A.I. is wrong. I trace it back to Maggie Reyes and a life coaching podcast from 2020.

Rules for YOUR Success

BE PREPARED DAILY FOR EACH CLASS

  • Bring a functional writing utensil, charged Chromebook and a folder w/ pockets & brads designated for English III (will stay in the classroom)

  • Please always have a book on hand for IR (independent reading) when you’re finished with classwork

  • YEARBOOK - just take care of the equipment you check out and take initiative to make daily progress

(...YOUR success)

TURN IN ALL WORK ON TIME

  • You will be given ample time to do your best work. If you utilize your time well in class with occasional homework if you don’t finish in class, you will accomplish this. Academic period and designated tutorials are also available to support timely work submission. Scroll down for late policy.

  • Plan ahead if you know you’ll be absent. You may not make up work DURING class

(...YOUR success)

  • When you turn in work, you are announcing that it is complete, and that you have done your best. At no time will I tolerate stealing of intellectual property.

  • You may not borrow the answers from Google, AI, nor your friends. ALL information sought out and included in your work must be properly attributed (sources cited).

  • Zeroes will be given to ALL parties participating at any level in plagiarism &/or cheating. We will discuss in class for your understanding!

USE YOUR OWN BRAIN

on mine.”

LATE WORK

10 points daily

  • ONE day after work is due, you may still turn it in for 10 points off your grade.

  • You lose 10 points each day work is late.

By Day 5

  • After 5 school days, missing work may no longer be turned in, and you have earned a zero.

  • Documented illness is excusable. You have 1 EXTRA day for work due.

11 of 17

TEST CORRECTIONS

  • You may retake failed tests for the highest grade of a 70

  • You have up to 5 school days to complete a retake

  • It’s up to YOU to schedule it. Let me know if you need to attend another instructor’s tutorials with 24-hour notice.

Be Extra!

“What can I do to raise my grade”?

  • There will be an extra-credit assignment posted at the beginning of each 9-weeks

  • It is due the Friday before the 9-week period ends

  • You have at least EIGHT WEEKS to complete it

  • It will definitely be “extra” and you will need to “be extra” to complete it

  • You can earn 10 extra points on any TEST or daily grade for your awesome extra effort!

Book Talks

“What can I do to raise my grade”?

(extra credit continued…)

  • 5 TEST points per book talk
  • Limitless, but must be over the book you just finished during IR in class
  • Informally talk about your book for at least 90 seconds & invite class discussion
  • Be careful not to give away massive spoilers

“Be responsible for

the energy

YOU BRING

to this space.”

-Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor

Be Present!

  • Please enter our shared space with an attitude of being OPEN to receive the learning opportunities before you each day. I will do the same.

  • Enter with quiet voices and bodies (hands to yourself). AT the tardy bell, all phones/airpods/etc must be turned off and put away. Focus on being seated and prepared to work and learn when the bell rings. I will recenter my energy between classes to be ready for YOU by the bell, as well.

  • Leave it ALL at the door. Focus on the HERE and NOW while in this class. Everything else can wait. Let’s GROW!

YEARBOOK ONLY…

This is an extra-curricular activity,

and it requires extra work.

  • Yearbook is a huge deal. You are responsible for capturing the entire CULTURE of LHS 2025-25 in a format utilized as historical record.
  • EVENTS - this WILL require time outside of school. You must sign up and attend school events before/after school and on weekends. YOU are responsible for finding your own ride, but your press pass gets you in for free
  • You must sign a contract and agree to camera usage policies. Equipment lost/stolen/damaged in your care is your financial responsibility. Average digital cameras with lenses range between $500-$2000
  • Other costs might include food for work nights as needed, or convention fees on a personal decision basis
  • Staffers may be required to sell ad space depending on the cost of publication. This is not option fundraising, it’s part of the process
