Distancing Updates & Safety Protocols

4 of 25

Current State of Distancing Guidelines

  • A new blended learning opt-in window was been opened as a result of updated CDC guidance distancing guidance
  • Due to transmission levels in New York City, the distancing recommendations for high school students has not changed
  • High school students must still maintain 6 feet of distancing at all times
  • Because high school students cannot be programmed in cohorts with the same core classes, a shift to hybrid learning with in-person instruction is not possible at this time

5 of 25

Health & Safety

In all of our in-person learning programs, the following guidelines are adhered to

  • Students will be seated 6 feet apart
  • All students and staff will wear masks
  • Each classroom will have two air purifiers
  • Classroom doors will remain open
  • Classroom windows remain open
  • Hallway windows remain open
  • Every classroom has a purell station that students and staff will use upon entry
  • Daily CO2 checks to monitor for air quality and circulation
  • Barring a weather emergency, students will eat outdoors
  • Weekly testing of 20% of in-person students will continue, if there are two or more cases in a 7 day period, 40% of in-person students will be tested

Basics of the Hybrid Cycle (if needed only!)

  • Students in an in-person priority group classroom are split into 2 cohorts: A & B
  • Students in cohort A come to the building for in-person instruction on Mondays & Tuesdays
  • Students in cohort B come to the building for in-person instruction on Thursdays & Fridays
  • Students in cohorts A and B come to the school for in-person learning on alternating Wednesdays
  • If a holiday or school event interrupts the regular school day of a cohort, then that group attends on Wednesday regardless of which cycle week it is

Technology in School

  • Because students will be engaged in virtual instruction, and students will need access to google classroom to complete assignments in the afternoon, students will need to bring a laptop to school
  • If students need a laptop to use in school we will provide one

Attendance Expectations

  • Our goal is to provide this program for the maximum number of days a week possible
  • Because space is limited, students that sign up for this program will be expected to attend everyday that they are scheduled

Questions so far...

22 of 25

  • What happens if a classroom is quarantined?
    • If a classroom is closed due to exposure to a positive case, families are contacted and students return to remote learning for 10 days after the exposure
  • If we try this program and decide we don’t want to participate, can we return to in-person SGI?
    • Students who leave the expanded priority group can only be guaranteed a space in remote learning. If there is room in their old advisory group we can reprogram them, but there is no guarantee
  • Will students be travelling around the building?
    • No, only for arrival, dismissal, and lunch. Otherwise students will remain in one classroom for the entire day with the same students
  • Will lunch be provided?
    • Yes, grab and go breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students can also bring lunch. Students CANNOT leave the campus for lunch

23 of 25

  • Can students lower their masks to eat and drink in class?
    • Yes
  • Do you anticipate challenges with students participating in different Zoom classes from the same room?
    • No, this has been working well so far!
  • How will students be grouped in classrooms?
    • By grade. In some instances grades may need to be mixed, but ideally each classroom is for a single grade
  • What are the benefits of coming in for facilitated remote learning?
    • Opportunities for social interaction
    • Supportive and skilled adults working with students in small groups
    • Daily small group support from 1:00 - 2:00
    • Routines and independence

24 of 25

  • Who is eligible to participate?
    • Any NEST+m Upper Grades student currently enrolled in blended learning
  • Can remote learners request to join?
    • Yes, but we cannot guarantee a seat. After programming blended learners, if we still have available seats we will enroll interested remote learners
