Data project helps consumer goods company save $1.5M

The completed analysis revealed the company could ship 1,000 fewer truckloads per year, save an annual $1.5 million in freight costs and reduce its carbon footprint by more than 1,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

A consumer goods company undergoing massive transformation was ready for a transportation management solution but faced a significant hurdle. The company’s information sat in two separate systems, which led to inconsistent data and product information gaps. Lack of quality data led to significant inefficiencies and higher costs.

NTT DATA’s packing optimization services helped the consumer goods company evaluate its existing transportation management system and look for significant cost savings, packaging efficiencies and sustainability benefits. The team collected prioritized SKUs from eight business units, custom-developed an interactive data collection tool and benchmarked the approach, measuring methods against Global Standards 1 to identify acceptable product variance levels.
