3. Why? Food waste matters for us and the environment

Food waste is a huge problem around the entire world. A lot of food is going wasted even thought it could be used in multiple ways.

Since we take care of the environment, we wanted to find easy to follow, simple and yet interesting solutions that can make a difference and result in behaviour change!

4. How did we proceed? What have we done?

“Meet your “clients” on their “market”: Social media!

→ We filmed short videos showing easy and helpful ways to reuse food waste

For example, we have showed that:

  • we can use banana peel for face mask and it helps also whiting the teeth;
  • using onions peels in tea is good for health;
  • onion peels can be made into a powder that can be used when we flavour food;
  • use vegetable scrap to fertilize the soil for new fruits, vegetables and other plants.

5. Our results?

Check out our Instagram Account on Instagram!(Using social media as a renewable platform for people to find solutions to Zero Food Waste easier)

Landskrona Mix

Still to be done:

  • We aim to show our videos to children in elementary schools and ask them to assist us with making posters.

6. What have we learned through this project ?

Both teaching and learning can be fun when you use creative tools and ideas.

Making a few simple video guides teaching a fun way for the young kids (no complex explanations) to make use of all parts of the fruits and vegetables when they prepare food can be an inspiration for other people to create other fun videos about the same ideal of Zero waste!

  • Using social media as a renewable platform to disseminate information allows people to easily understand and practice ZERO WASTE while preparing food in their own homes.

  • By targeting younger children with our dissemination efforts at schools, the team’s awareness raising campaign also had a real life part where we could interact and see the immediate reaction of kids to our videos.
