Chapter 8: Solving the Crime
The Fairy Tale Fixers looked at their paw�print investigation sheet.
“Well, Winston is definitely innocent,” said one, “his paw is much bigger than the muddy �print!”
“But none of the other prints match either - none of them have pawprints that are 5cm long.”
The Fairy Tale Fixers decided the problem�would wait until tomorrow. It was late, and time to go home.

The next morning, the Fairy Tale Fixers �returned to the office to continue their work.
To their surprise, the phone was flashing red -�there was a message waiting.
That was strange. Who had called them overnight?
They gathered around the phone to listen to �the message…
As the message ended, the Fairy Tale Fixers�looked at each other in horror.�
“Arrested?” they said to one another, “but he’s innocent!”
They knew that the only way to get Winston�out of prison was to find the real burglar.
“Okay,” said one, “let’s start gathering more evidence. We can split into teams!”
The teams agreed to meet back at the office at lunch time. There was a lot of work to do!

Burglary Investigation Board
Sure enough, the teams were out all�morning carrying out their important�investigations. They travelled all �over town and went back to the Brick�House to ask more questions and gather�more evidence.�
At twelve o’clock, they gathered together�in the office to add their findings to the�Investigation Board.

The burglar stole a box of ‘Fox’s chocolate biscuits.’

Winston spotted an orange tail.
The fox was still not at home!
There was some orange fur in the pigs’ kitchen.
On the night of the burglary, the pigs’ pet chickens were making a terrible noise.
“Right,” said one of the team eventually, “I think it’s clear who the burglar is. �It’s time to write our report for the police.”
Fairy Tale Fixer Job:
This is urgent. You need to write a report telling the police everything you have found out�Only then will Winston be released from prison and the real burglar arrested.
Start your report with who you think the burglar is, and then explain why.��YR: aim for one or two sentences, but write more if you like! (your grown ups can write more sentences if you like, but you’ll need to help them with ideas and spellings).��Y1: write at least 4 super sentences. As usual, have a break between sentences if you need it! Your challenge this week is to start your sentences with posh report -writing openers: Firstly, Also, In addition.�
