Who are we?

    • Student-led program, established 1991
    • Various occasions students were told by Theater Arts they would not be cast because of their race
    • Used by Theater Arts as diversity token but given limited access to all resources and support systems
    • Students voted to tax themselves in order to sustain diversity theater programs including AATAT, Rainbow
    • 120,000 in scholarships over the 30 year history
    • 30 Year Gala featuring Danny Glover, podcast featuring Ashley Nicole Black
    • Outreach every year to increase retention of Black students

Who are we?

    • The Black Student Union (BSU) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), serves as a unifying body for all Black organizations on campus, as well as the Black student body. BSU is charged with ensuring the well-being of the Black community by engaging political issues that pertain to the Black community on campus and at-large.
