The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offers teens the chance to grow, learn, and thrive in ways that go beyond the classroom. This internationally recognized program challenges young people to develop key life skills through physical activity, learning new talents, volunteering in their communities, and participating in outdoor adventures. It helps them build confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment, all while having fun and making memories. By signing up, you're giving your teen the opportunity to discover their potential and stand out as they work towards a prestigious achievement recognized worldwide.

Part 1: Engaging in Activities!

What’s required of participants?

  • Skill Development: Think of a skill you want to learn or improve. (guitar, gaming, baking, drawing, etc.)

  • Physical Recreation: Choose a physical activity you enjoy. (soccer, swimming, dance, rock climbing, hiking etc.)

  • Volunteering: Find ways to help your community. (animal shelter, community garden, etc.)

Part 1:Completing Activities - Bronze Level Award

What’s required of participants?

During the Bronze Level Award participants will complete at least 1 hour per week of their chosen Skill Development, Physical Recreation, and Volunteering tasks for 13 weeks.

Participants will also choose one area of speciality to complete an additional 13 weeks of.

*These weeks do not need to be completed consecutively.

In the example below the participant is surpassing the minimum required hours and would meet award requirements in 26 weeks (6.5 months). However, they have up to 1 year to log their activities if needed.

Explore Award Activities at School!

  • Often times participants can meet the Award requirements through programs already offered at their schools or in their communities.

  • Think about clubs or activities at school that interest you. It could be a drama club to improve your acting skills, helping out in the school garden, joining a sports team, or playing an instrument in band class.

  • As long as you have a goal to improve, it can likely count towards your Award!

Next, participants are going to plan an exciting adventure! The adventure could be something close to home, like exploring your local neighborhood, or a bit further out, like backcountry camping.

    • Adventure Planning Details:
      • Overnight Stay: Your adventure must include a self-sufficient overnight stay.
      • Team Goal: Every adventure needs a goal. Think about what you want to achieve as a team.
      • Mode of Travel: Decide how you'll travel—on foot, by bike, kayak, etc.
      • Nutritious Meals: Plan to prepare and eat a nutritious meal each day.

  • Virtual to Reality: Gaming Comes to Life - setting up a base camp from your favorite video game

  • Zombie Survival Training: Preparing for the Apocalypse - designing a pretend zombie apocalypse escape route

  • Hiking Adventure: Exploring Nature's Wonders - backcountry hiking & camping

  • Waterway Exploration: Discovering Nature by Canoe - kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding trips

  • Urban Eats: Culinary Exploration Trip - discovering new cuisine and learning about unique cultures through food.

Supervised Adventurous Journey with The YES

Hiking Adventure: Exploring Nature's Wonders Backcountry Hiking & Camping

Cost: $210.00

Preparation & Training Practice Journey: 1 day

Qualifying Journey: 2 days + 1 night (6 hours of purposeful effort each day).

Location: Vancouver Island

The YES will be opening registration for The Bronze Level Award on October 9th, 2024

Registration Fee: $325

What’s Included

  • One-on-One support throughout the Bronze Award journey for 1 year.
  • Access to all Duke of Edinburgh Materials and the Online Record Book.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Level Certificate upon completion of the program.

*Additional Fees: Additional fees will vary depending on the type of Adventurous Journey and location participants choose.

Doing activities with friends can make everything more fun. You can do all your Award activities with friends, if you wish!

There are so many reasons to complete the Award with a friend. It can help improve accountability, make the experience more rewarding, and help build lifelong friendships and connections.

Looking to the Future! What’s After Bronze?

Once Participants have completed the Bronze Level Award they can choose to move on to Silver and Gold which will be offered in 2025.
