Who to approach as referee?

  • University​​ Scholarships / NUS College
    • 1 referee
    • Preferably a teacher who knows you well i.e. Civics Tutor​
  • Local medicine applications
    • 2 referees
    • Preferably a healthcare community leader whom you have worked with or a teacher who knows you well

Who to approach as referee?

  • Aptitude-based admissions to NTU
    • 1-2 referees
    • Preferably an external community leader or coach or CCA teacher, depending on your aptitude
  • SUTD applications
    • 1-2 referees
    • Preferably a teacher who knows you well academically (preferably Math or Science tutors)

Invitation deadline

  • The application deadline is 19 Mar which falls during the March holiday (15 – 23 Mar). Teachers may not be contactable during term break.
  • Invite your teachers to write a reference for you at least 1 week before you submit your application so as to give your teachers ample time to write the reference.
  • The latest date to invite teachers is 7 Mar.

What information to provide for your teacher referee?

  • course and university you are applying to
  • reason for inviting this particular teacher to write your reference
  • date which you intend to submit your application (This is essential as teachers will only have 3 days to 1 week to complete the referral after you submit the application.)

Post-invitation

  • Download the university pre-application reflection form available on the NYJC ECG portal, fill it in and email your teacher referee within 1 week from your submission of university application. The information you provide will greatly aid your teacher in writing a reference for you.

Post-invitation

  • For NTU scholarships/aptitude-based admissions: Send your teacher the link for the reference submission portal (with your application details) immediately after application submission.

  • For the other universities, there should be an automated email link sent directly to your teacher after you submit the application form. Please ask your teacher to check their spam folder if they did not receive the link.
