Upcoming Programs - from Susan Slaton, Program Chair
Hello quilters! The March program will feature YOU!! The last time we had a My Other Hobby program, it was a rousing success. You can email me about your other hobby(ies) and bring three items to show us. Maybe you make dolls, or knit, crochet, paint or weave. Whatever your other hobby, we'd all love to hear about it. Just send me an email and I will get you on the list of presenters. Thanks!
Susan Slaton, wazoo4u@gmail.com
Candace Hassen is coming in May to give us a lovely trunk show! Candace has been here before, and was well received by the membership. She has new quilts to show us as well as teaching a class on Wednesday. I will have the sign up sheet at the meeting next week, and you can begin signing up for the class Sonja's Windows. To see the quilt and all the exciting layouts you can make, check out her website at: https://quiltdesignsbycandace.com
The class will be May 24th. Cost is $35. I hope to see you there!

Diane Banakas announced each quilt, and the Johnsons did the auctioneering.
The High Bid Quilts
Marilyn Thompson was a proxy bidder for Tim and Cindy Strike, who really, really wanted “Conversations with Granny Carrie and Grandma Ethel” (right), which they won for $550.
Pat Christ won the crooked flowers and the magazine in which it was published (left), for $700.
QuiltFest ‘23
Mark your calendar! Set up on Thursday, September 21, Quilt Show on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23.
Location: The new Union County Sports Center Gym.
Organizing Committee Meeting: Tuesday, March 7, 1 pm, Civic Center Conference Room. There are lots of tasks that need volunteers!
Here is our raffle quilt…
The pattern is called "Coastal Lily" by Minick & Simpson and the size is 83" x 83". The top was made by Sally Montgomery. Quilted by Gail Cowdin. Both are guild members. It is really beautiful!! If you don’t yet have your raffle tickets to sell, contact Sue Young. Each member is expected to sell 30 tickets; this is a major fundraiser for the Guild, and helps us pay for the excellent presenters at meetings and workshops.
QuiltFest Volunteers Needed!
There is a job for everyone! Some before the show, most during the show. Some jobs are sit-down only, some are standing, some are walking around during the show. Choose a couple of jobs you can do, and contact the QuiltFest Sub-Committee chair to sign up. Every Guild member is expected to donate at least a few hours to QuiltFest, and all able-bodied hands will need to be on deck for set-up and take-down.
QuiltFest Quilts Needed
Books and Magazines for our Boutique
Start planning and stitching your show quilts! There will be categories for all types of quilts. As Susan Slaton pointed out at the November General Meeting (December newsletter, Slide 7), having a professional judge your quilt is a real learning experience and an opportunity to improve your quilting. More details about entering your quilts will be provided as we get closer to the show.
From Liz Hogan: Books and magazines in our boutique earned us over $1000 in 2019, so it’s a great moneymaker. She will accept magazines no more than 10 years old. Please bundle magazines by title, then by year, then in month order. Remove or mark through any address labels. She will sell most of them in 1-year bundles. Quilting and other craft books sell well. Any quilt patterns must be originals, not photocopies so as not to violate copyright. Please hold onto these until May as Liz’s garage can only hold so much!
Welcome guests and new members at the January Meeting!
Do you have sewing items to sell? Or are you looking for a new/used machine?
New members: Rose Marie Eaton (Just Stitchin’ quilt shop in Hayesville), Debbie Roth, Catherine Clement, Daryl Bagley
Guests: Frances Dyer (guest of Marti Harper), Trish Anrig (Meredith Warwick), Sandi Jo Larson (Theresa Plott), Kitty Jones (Kim Pemberton), Lauren Procko (Susan Slaton), Bill & Jeanette Earle (Terry Kohler)
Check out the Trading Post section of the MMQG website!
