Welcome!

Welcome to English 1101!

What is English 1101? A writing class! We will write A LOT this semester. We will write both long high stakes pieces (3 major projects, 2 shorter unit reflections and 1 final reflection) and short low stakes pieces (homeworks, discussion posts, etc.). We will read many different texts for different purposes. Sometimes we will use the authors as mentors or inspiration for our writing and other times as research.

In order to learn to write better, we must write and write and write. I will be here each step of the way and look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you!

Let’s Read and Discuss!

As a class read these two pieces! Then discuss. How are you setting yourself up for success? What concerns do you have? What struggles you do anticipate your might face? What is one thing you took away from these two pieces?

“Tardy” by Jack Shalom

Now, let’s read this. Then take about 10-15 minutes to write a brief response to the piece. NO pressure. There is NO right answer! Just what comes to mind after reading this piece!
