Materials should be brought to class each day.
Students will earn points for presentations, assignments, projects, and participation in labs. A large part of students’ grade in this class depends on participation and cooperation during medical labs. To make meaningful experiences from lab time, all safety guidelines and lab instructions must be followed. All students will participate in practicing safe lab procedures throughout the quarter to ensure safety for themselves and for classmates. If lab expectations are not followed, students will NOT participate in the next lab and either finish the assignment separately, make up the assignment outside of class or receive a zero at teacher discretion.
Daily work assignments and projects are considered late if submitted after the teacher’s established due date.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make-up missed assignments. Please visit with Mrs. Celli about missed work from absences.
The highest grade a student can earn on a late assignment or project is a 70%.

Medical Detectives
In this course, students explore the biomedical sciences by playing the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease and investigate healthcare professions in the medical field. They will solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, create large-scale models of body structures, and set-up and observe the effectiveness of antibiotics on bacteria growth. Towards the end of the quarter, students will demonstrate safety procedures in a dissection lab of a sheep’s brain to better understand the anatomy and functions of the human brain!

Communication
Students will receive a progress report in class during the 3rd week of the quarter. In order to receive extra credit, students must have a parent sign the report and then return to Mrs. Celli by the due date.
