Summer Vacation is just round the corner, let every moment of this vacation be a time to unite, connect and enjoy beautiful moments with your child.

Children are born with natural curiosity and inquisitiveness about the world around them. It is important for us to help them keep this spark alive and to make learning fun.

Here are some activities given to help your child become independent and confident:-

Independent Me

Developing Motor Skills

Working on Gross Motor Skills helps child gain strength and confidence in his/her body.

Do activities like-

Fine Motor Skills involve the use of the small muscles that control the hand, fingers and thumb. It helps to build a child’s self-esteem and confidence also. Do Activities like-

  • building with legos and blocks
  • beading

Handy Musical Instrument

Exposing young children to musical instruments can help to achieve various skills like listening skills, eye-hand coordination, and fine motor skills and in developing muscle tone in the hands and arms. Therefore, help your child to make ANY ONE handy musical instrument with the help of sample images given below.

 

 

 

 

 

Paper Plate Tambourine

MATERIAL REQUIRED-Small paper plate, Markers, stickers, etc. (decorations),Yarn, Jingle bells, Hole punch or pencil, Scissors, ribbons

Step 1-Have your child decorate the back of the paper plate.

Step 2-Cut sections of yarn 3 inches long (as many sections of yarn as bells you'd like to use).

Step 3-Thread each jingle bell onto a piece of yarn.

Step 4-Use a hole punch or pencil to cut holes around the edge of the plate.

Step 5-Tie the jingle bells to the holes on the plate and cut off the excess yarn.

SENSORY BAG

MATERIAL REQUIRED-A zip lock bag/ any transparent packet, hair gel, food colour, glitter,

cello tape.

Step 1 – Fully open the Zip lock bag and lay it on a flat surface. Then, pour the hair gel into the bag.

Step 2 -Apply a couple drops of food colouring to the gel inside the large Ziploc bag.

Step 3 – Sprinkle the glitter into bag. You can use as much as you would like.

Step 4-Put tape on all sides of the bag so that there is no leakage.

Step 5-Use it for practising different patterns and letters, numbers.

PATTERN STRIPS

MATERIAL REQUIRED-A4 size sheets, sketch pens, scissors

Step 1-Fold the A4 sheet vertically

Step2-Take out four strips from one sheet

Step3-Draw simple patterns on them

Step4-Encourage your child to trace the patterns using different seeds

(Like watermelon or buttons etc.)

Step5- Laminate the same using broad transparent tape.

BUSY BOARD- BASIC LIFE SKILLS

MATERIAL REQUIRED-A4 size sheet, card board, zip, shirt with buttons, shoe lace

Step 1- Take an A4 size sheet

Step 2- Divide it in 3 parts

Step 3- Paste a zip on the sheet

Step 4- Cut an old shirt from the button side and paste it on the same A4 size sheet.

Step 5- Draw a shoe with holes for the shoe lace on a sheet

Step 6- Now paste the complete sheet on the card board

Note- Use a feviquick or a glue gun for pasting the zip and shirt

For the Parents

Reading is Fun

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.

∙ Make reading a regular practice with pictures and large text.

∙ Read out value based stories from Panchatantra, Pepper and Bruno to the child daily.

∙ Make bed-time stories a part of your child’s daily routine.

Be a Friend of your child

∙ Identify a family game like cricket, football, volleyball, etc. and play with your child every weekend.

∙ Take your child for nature walk and explore different leaves, insects, pebbles, trees while walking

 

Help your child develop good language skills by speaking to him in complete sentences and using “grown up” words. Help him to use the correct words and phrases. Help your child to learn simple sentences:

Please give me a bath.

Please trim my nails.

Can I watch T.V.?

It is hot today/raining today.

Mom, May I help you? 

Please give me water.

I am feeling hungry/ thirsty.

I have finished my lunch.

He/she is troubling me.

Mom, you are looking beautiful today.

Papa, you are looking handsome today.

I am glad to see you.

 

Self-Introduction: Knowing about oneself is the most important thing at this tender age of learning. Teach them how to introduce themselves.

Show and tell activity: Chose any one object from your surroundings every day and let your child speak a few lines on it.

Use of magic words like Excuse me, thank you Please should be initiated.

  • Note for the Parents:
    • Take a print out of the worksheets and encourage the child to do it independently. Put them in a labelled folder and send them when the school will reopen.
    • Ensure that the child does the Homework neatly on his/her own under your guidance and supervision.
    • Be a friend, motivator and guide to the kids during the break.
    • Originality of work would be appreciated.
