Myths
Myth 1
It is a cultural issue - students avoid giving own views as this is challenging authority so do, instead experts are copied.
Research shows that this stereotype is inaccurate e.g. In Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese education, plagiarism is not legitimised.
Myth 2
Students don’t know it is a dishonest act to engage in.
This is an easy option for educators to believe, as it prevents educators from taking necessary action to ensure assessment design which minimised breaches in academic integrity.
