WHAT ABOUT FIRE?!

Natural Fire- a necessity of life -

  • Provides warmth (social/family gatherings)
  • Protection (keeps away bears, and probably other dangerous animals)
  • Food preparation for health and overall happiness
  • Provides light, extends our productivity time
  • Can destroy and threaten life if not controlled

Spiritual Fire- important role in the Bible -

  • Symbol of God’s presence
  • God’s protection
  • Sacrifices and the altar
  • Judgement
  • Holy Spirit; purification

MEANING

  • Place upon the fire your sacrifices, difficulties, and sadness, and ask God to accept them as a sacrificial offering and bestow upon you joy and peace.
  • Through the performances, feel the presence of our Lord in the Eucharistic Fire and the love of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist even deeper, carrying out his mission and loving faithfully as a witness of Christ.

ROLES - BONFIRE COORDINATOR

  • Prepare the firewood
  • Chose a location for the firepit
  • Understand the contents of the acts and adjust the fire to add drama and affect
  • Ensure fire is always under control - safety is priority!

ROLES - NARRATING COORDINATOR

  • Set the stage - Introduce the performance and guide its contents
  • Coordinate with the Musical Coordinator to include activities that help the Eucharistic Bonfire progress continuously and be lively

  • Close out the performances with songs, chants, and dances (prepared in advance) that are appropriate to the performance
  • Be agile, playful, and lively
  • Collaborate closely with the Narrating Coordinator

REMINDERS

  • Do not misrepresent, mock, or change the text (specifically quotes) or characters in the Bible. Creative license does not apply to gender.
  • Each performance should be from 5-7 minutes; do not exceed this time limit.

TASKS

  • Read through the team’s assigned Bible passage and familiarize yourself with the characters and important events.
  • Decide how the performance will be given. Be creative in how the story is presented, but keep the substance consistent with biblical text.
  • Put together an outline/script and assign team members to various roles and characters. Avoid narration and actively include everyone on the team.
  • Prepare props and costumes, which are important for a successful performance and helps the audience immerse themselves more fully into what is being shown.
  • Practice! Practice! Practice! Teams will have time during camp to practice - please prepare as much as possible before then and use appointed practice times wisely!
